The Bitch Mix [Apr. 18th, 2006|09:29 pm]

[song on the wind |Bitch -- Meredith Brooks]

tisana made me a mix cd, titled Bitch Mix. Song 5 is "Gravel" by Ani DiFranco. I... she had told me she put relevant music for my "current situation" on this cd, but goddess above was this song like... the situation. Not exactly, of course, but it felt so RIGHT.

i heard the sound of your bike,
as your wheels hit the gravel,
then your engine in the driveway
cutting off
and i pushed through the screen door
and i stood out on the porch
thinking figh, fight, fight
at all costs,
but instead i let you in,
just like i've always done
and i sat you down and offered you a beer
and across the kitchen table
i fired several rounds,
but you were still sitting here
when the smoke cleared.
and you came crawling back
to say that you wanna
make good in the end

and oh, oh,
let me count the ways
that i abhore you,
and you were never a good lay
and you were never a good friend
but, oh, oh, what else can i say...
i adore you

all i need is my leather,
one t-shirt and two socks,
i'll keep my hands warm
in your pockets
and we can use the engine block,
and we'll ride out to california
with my arms around your chest,
and i'll pretend that this is real
'cuz this is what i like best,
and you've been juggling two women
like a stupid circus clown
telling us both we are the one
and maybe you can keep me from ever being happy,
but you're not gonna stop me from having fun.
so let's go before i change my mind
i'll leave the luggage of all your lives behind
'cuz i am bigger than everything that came before

and you were never very kind,
and you let me way down every time
but oh, oh, oh what can i say...
i adore you

i heard the sound of your bike,
as your wheels hit the gravel,
then your engine in the driveway
cutting off

There are other excellent songs on here, like "Sleep to Dream" by Fiona Apple (one of my all-time favorite songs) and, currently playing "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks.

Man, I have some awesome friends who just know what they should do for me. I was having a very stressful day, and listening to this has made so much of it better.

I'd always liked the song. Had totally forgotten it existed too. And yea, song and a half.

Glad you like it, babe. :)
Yeah, "Gravel" really gets to me, too, some days.

Have you gotten to the last song, yet?

Yep. Love love love her. I have the means and the inclination to put together a fighty Ani disk if you want. I just ripped most of my collection into itunes. Say the word and it's yours.
XO

"the word" :-)

I think she's great, listened to her a LOT in highschool, but I have never owned anything of hers other than on mix CD's. A mix CD of just Ani would ROCK. :-)

Right on. And I have pretty much up to date albums, so can get you some of the newer stuff. Mind you, my favorite albums are Not a Pretty Girl, Dialate, and Little Plastic Castles. Her energy has been shifting ever since. But, I still love her.
