You know, I was hopeing to have atleast moved some of the furniture in before our neighboors called the cops on us...
So apparently the previous tennants were bad enough that the cops asked where each of the kids were liveing...
Cought your attention yet?
and I got the keys to the new place tonight, from our land lord, Charlie. His daughter, her husband, and their 2 little kids live in the apartment below ours. We were walking around, went down into the basement, took mesurements of rooms, looked at what still needed repairing, etc. We were up in the attic, looking at what still needed to be fixed.
A male voice called up to us "Hello?" We, of course, said hello back, and I went down onto the main floor, assumeing that Charlie's son-in-law was probably wondering who was up there. It was an Arlington Cop. Actually, It was two. He asked who we were, and I explained that we were the new tennants, and that we had picked up the keys just a few hours earlier. I also explained, that since we hadn't moved anything yet, that, unfortunately, we didn't have a copy of the lease with us. He asked if anyone was there with me, I called Darxus down, and he asked to see our ID's. He explained that the downstairs neighboors heard someone moveing around, and as the previous tennants had moved out, and we weren't supposed to move in quite yet, were naturally scared. Also, Charlie's son-in-law wasn't home at the time (he was by the time the cops arrived) and his wife was home with a friend (possibly in a minorly altered state) and the kids were asleep. If I were at home with kids (yea, right) and heard someone where there was supposed to be no one, i'd call the cops too.
So we met our neighboors. They seemed nice enough. They also seemed like people who we're not going to have to worry too much about being neighboors with. She called her Dad, who confirmed for the police the names of the people who were supposed to be moveing in (thank *god* Charlie remeberd our names, he's had a bit of trouble with that.) and everyone was really good natured about the whole thing.
We also learned a bit about the previous tennants. Charlie had told us that the couple was going through a divorce, but apparently there were problems with their kids. Enough problems, that the cops asked our neighboors if they knew where the son had moved to. They all actually thought that it might have been the son in our apartment, because he currently doesn't have a place to live. The daughters seemed to be a bit of a problem too, because the cops sounded real
happy to know that everyone had moved out of Arlington. No wonder we looked like such good tennants. :-)
So that was our little adventure for tonight. Darxus and I are currently "discussing" room use and furnature placement (as far as the liveing room, dineing room, and "den"/nook is concerned.) He said i can keep stuffed aminals on the window sill in the liveing room. It's a big window sill. I need more stuffed aminals :-)
