friendster

I searched my personal network for people with your first name (I don't see that name on your userinfo so I won't write it here in a public post)... and got screenful upon screenful. A few hundred, I think. Good thing you had an easily recognizeable photo.

So, if you want another few ten thousand odd people in your network, go ahead and add me :)

I am highly annoyed that they won't let me create an account without a last name.

They use your last name as a verification method for people who want to add you as a friend. It's stored but never displayed. If someone who is more than two hops from you tries to search for you and add you as their friend, one way they can verify that you're the person the mean to add, is to enter your last name. If the last name they put in matches your stored last name, then it believes them (because they wouldn't have been able to find your last name on Friendster).
